Aspire is a one-on-one after-school tutoring and mentoring program for students in under-serviced Mississauga neighborhoods (Kindergarten to Grade 6). Our objectives are to improve grades, foster positive attitudes towards education and the community, and bring children, youth, and families together. Volunteer benefits include community service hours, work experience, and a reference. Aspire is a place-based program that aims to address the link between education and crime by providing accessible education opportunities for all children and youth. Collaboration, community referrals, and true partnerships are at the heart of our approach. Ongoing evaluation is key to our success, and the outcomes include improvement in school grades, academic skill development, enhanced family relationships, self-confidence, and social skills. Testimonials from parents and tutors highlight the positive impact of Aspire. Our program implementation has also yielded unexpected outcomes, including helping families in meaningful ways and advocating for parents in navigating the school system. Aspire's next steps include expanding to additional site locations, third-party evaluation, and parenting workshops.
