The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research • Mistrawaslaunched in 1994 • Has itsowncapital, todayapprox SEK 3 billion • Assets managedaccordingtosustainabilitycriteria • Mistra has untilnowinvestedapprox SEK 3 billion in research programmes • Currentlysome 15 Mistra-programmes and 2 centers arerunning • www.mistra.org

WHY DID WE INVEST IN GREENCHEM? - background • Mistralaunched a call for proposals in 2001: • ”The New Biology – potentials and problems for environmental management” • ”The New Biology” – an issue not only for naturalsciencesbutalso social sciences and humanities, and users • Expectedproposalsabout new processes for chemicals, cleaningprocesses, sustainablefarming etc. • Risk analysiswasemphasized.
