  4. a joint initiativet between Innovation Norway and The Research Council of Norway • established to achieve synergy between innovative development work, applied research and basic research • The programme based on strategies prepared jointly by the forestry and wood-based industries. • Total budget RCN aprox.: NOK 20 Mill. WOOD R&D programme

Intentions for BIA • be an active partner in further developing the knowledge intensive Norwegian industry • engage in the best innovation projects • mobilise industry to increased R&D investments • finance large ambitious projects • stimulate networks between sectors and scientific disciplines

Important characteristics for BIA projects • Research-based innovation • High potential for value creation • Competition based on quality • Public investment must be vital for realisation of the project Target groups: Existing industry. “The best companies in existing industry shall become even better.” New industry. ”Opportunities for new companies with exceptional ambitions for R&D to realise projects ideas.”

Centres for Research-based Innovation (CRI) • designed to fund long-term research conducted in close cooperation between Norway's most research-oriented companies and its most prominent research communities. • centres will be funded for five to eight years at a support level of 50 per cent of their total operating costs • the target group is research-intensive companies and dynamic research groups whose collective long-term research agenda focuses on generating expertise and solutions of the highest international calibre

  9. SFI awarded to Construction Industry COIN - Concrete Innovation Centre (v/SINTEF) The aim of the centre is to become a leading actor in concrete research in Europe. New advanced materials, efficient construction technology and new design concepts based on environmentally sound materials, shall be developed. Fibres shall replace steel reinforcement in many constructions. Structural Impact Laboratory - SIMLab (v/ NTNU) The aim of the centre is to establish technology platform to develop safe an cost effective construction. The ability of light constructions to sustain impact loads is a core challenge.
