University of Southampton Research Repository • e-Prints Soton: • Moved physically to Information Systems Services from School of Electronics and Computer Science since fire • Embedded service mode • Recently obtained library/ISS developer support - Adam White • Will shortly have test server • Repository shortly to have increased metadata input with RAE activity
e-Prints Soton • Administrator team • Light mediation – citation check and adding DOI or other useful info • Schools – contacts evolving – tech or admin • Mixed input • Self archiving and batch • Have users (admin to end user) for PRESERV discussions • Main current concerns – are procedures good for scaling up? • Can PRESERV help with useful reports eg formats detail?
Oxford Eprints • Research articles by Oxford authors • Set up with SHERPA support – librarian designated during project phase • Articles from OUP – experiment • To move to new server shortly • Lower key but can test software • Neil Jefferies – tech support - update
Stakeholders • Initial concentration: • Researcher viewpoint • Interviews – what research do you want to preserve? • Early indications • Ideal: my (or my group, my department) research in context • Repository plus web site enrichment • Want to know how research direction was arrived at
Other stakeholders • Wider university eg VC, DVC, information services – administrators • Admin: files plus links • OAIS – need OAIS lite if validate. Poss. Certification preferably advice • Preservation services eg BL • End users/teachers • Research funders – defining policies • Wellcome Trust activities will provide more developed preservation for specific subject areas
