Past Tenses – Simple and Continuous Minulé časy – prostý a průběhový
Longer action in the past An action that interrupts the longer action Use:Užití minulých časů: • To describe an action in the past that fractions another longer action
Examples • I was watching TV when the telephone rang. • She was cooking dinner when her husband came home.
Sequence: • It is not imporatnt which tense comes first. • Past continuous – longer action • Past simple – the short action I was walking home when it started to rain. It started to rain while I was walking home.
Conjunctions • The two past tense sentences are usually connected by: • When –když, kdy • While – zatímco, během
Examples Jackie………….(sleep) when somebody……(knock) at the front door. Jackie was sleeping when somebody knocked at the front door.
Examples When we…….(arrive) at the station they …………(wait) for us. When we arrived at the station they were waiting for us.
