www.nethawk.fi IP-RAN • IP technology, such as Ethernet, used for transmission of control and user plane in UTRAN interfaces as defined in 3GPP Rel5: • Decreases costs in start-up and operation phases. • Improves scalability, reliability and data transport-capacity. • IP-RAN architecture with RNCs and NodeBs similar to normal UTRAN:
www.nethawk.fi NetHawk M5 for IP-RAN • Difference in the protocol stacks in Iub and Iu-CS as IP transmission is used: • In the Iub the NBAP protocol is carried over IP/SCTP stack and framing protocols and L3 signalling are carried over IP/UDP. • New NBAP procedures describe how IP bearer addresses are allocated between NodeB and RNC for the user plane. • Protocols in grey are obsolete in IP-RAN case.

www.nethawk.fi NSN I-HSPA • Internet High Speed Packet Access – new high-speed data technology designed for heavy data users over the wireless network: • Simple module upgrade to NSN WCDMA base stations. • Packet user plane data sent via Ethernet directly from NodeB to the GGSN. • Otherwise the radio architecture of the network remains the same.
