What is the Department of Agriculture responsible for? • Finding solutions to problems that affect America everyday, such as: • Protecting crops and livestock from pests and disease. • To improve the quality and safety of all agricultural products. • To determine the best nutrition to people of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
To sustain the soil of the U.S. and other natural resources. • Insure profitability of all farmers and processors. • Keep costs down for consumers. • Provide research support to all the other agencies.
Who is in charge of the Department of Agriculture? • A member of the President’s Cabinet made up of all the federal departments, the Vice President and the Attorney General. • The person who is now in charge of the Department of Agriculture is Secretary Mike Johanns.
What are the 5 ways this department affects our lives? • It protects the crops and livestock from diseases and pests. • It insures the quality of all agricultural products that meet or exceed the department’s standards to distribute to the public. • It helps other departments aware of the Department of Agriculture's responsibility.
It also helps prices to be at their lowest for all other agricultural products sold. • Most of these agricultural products are good for us in terms of our health.
