Modern day Evolution现 代 演 变 • Today on the streets, there are fireworks, walking on stilts, and folk dancing. • Lanterns are displayed and in some places riddles are hung and prizes are awarded. • A traditional food that the Chinese eat are 元 宵(yuanxiao) sweet dumplings.
Story Time古事 • Once upon a time, there was a bird that was originally from heaven. The village people tried to hunt it which made the emperor very angry. He ordered to demolish the village and kill everything with storm of fire on the 15th day of the lunar calendar. Luckily a wise man came by the village and told everyone to hang red lanterns and explode firecrackers in the streets. So that the emperor would think the people were under attack. On that night the emperor did not burn down the village because he thought that the village was already destroyed. Now every year people carry lanterns on the street and play with firecrackers.
