NEBRASKA College Preparatory Academy (NCPA) • UNL is committed to providing quality programs that serve underprivileged students. • 2006, UNL was approached by Grand Island Senior High school to support a program designed to enhance graduation rates. • 2006, UNL implemented NCPA at Grand Island Senior High School.
NCPA ScholarSelection • 40 Promising 9th graders • 1st Generation & Low-income • Academically prepared for College Preparatory Courses
NCPA ScholarAcademic Requirements • Math, Science, & English classes are taken as a cohort. • 3.0 Cumulative GPA and 3.0 in Core Courses • Summer Research Conference at UNL • Must complete a Research Capstone Project
NCPA ScholarOther Requirements • Required Monthly Parent Meetings • Home visitations by UNL staff • Required weekly and monthly individual and group meetings. • Teacher Support and Incentives • Each NCPA scholar is paired with a UNL current mentor.
NCPA ScholarGuarantee • Upon successful completion, scholars are guaranteed admission to UNL & enough grants and/or scholarships to graduate without debt • UNL will provide personalized retention services
NCPA Expansion • Several school districts have approached UNL about expansion • 2007, The Empowerment Network, Omaha North Foundation and Omaha North Magnet Administration approached UNL • 2008, UNL implemented a pilot at Omaha North Magnet High School • 11 High School Juniors • 14 Freshman
