  1. DIP_simu_02.ppt • Rigorous specification: Forms • Problem specification • Process flow diagram

  2. Problem specification • 1) Defining the Flowsheet. • 2) Basic Specifications: • Setup • Components • Properties • Flowsheet (Sections) • Streams • Blocks • Reactions • Convergence • 3) Additional Specifications (Flowsheeting Options). • 4) Analysis (Model Analysis Tools)

  3. Defining the Process Flow Diagram • 1) PLACING THE BLOCKS. • Practice on a blank sheet: • Two modes: Insert (several blocks) and Drag&Drop (single-one). • Naming blocks and streams: • (Tools/Options/Flowsheet: Automatic asign block name). • Instructions: • http:// iqtma.uva.es/dip/restringido/UNE-EN_ISO_10628=2001.pdf • Grid: /Tools/Options/Grid-Scale. • Practice with Bayer Application (//File /Open [Favorites] Applications: bayer.bkp): • Zoom: right-click • Zoom-In (Ctrl + Up) • Zoom-Out (Ctrl+ Down) • Zoom-Full (Ctrl + Fin) • Center view (Select block/stream  Ctrl + Inicio) • Selecting multiple elements: • Drag over a region • Ctrl + CLICK • Right-click /Select All (Ctrl+A) • Move labels (ID) • right-click • /Hide /ID • /Exchange Icon (Ctrl+K) • /Rotate Icon (Right,Left, X-flip, Y-flip) • /Resize Icon Cambiar de tamaño (also: Num-keyboard + - ) • Replace blocks: • right-click /Unplace • Place Next – Drag&Drop - Place All Select a block and right-click:

  4. Sections • Use to: 1) enhance clarity, 2) simplify viewing and printing large flowsheets, and 3) simplify assignments of physical property specifications or stream classes • Better organized, simplifies viewing and printing, own thermodynamic models. • Section toolbar. • By default: GLOBAL • Menu: /Flowsheet/Flowsheet Sections • Select a block, right-click /Change Section • /View/Current Section Only • 2) CONNECTING BLOCKS WITH STREAMS. • Two modes: Select (multiple) and Drag (single-one). • Select streams, : • /Align Blocks (Ctrl+B) • /Re-route streams (Ctrl+J) • Reconnect streams: • right-click /Reconnect {Source or Destination} • Drag the conection port away from the block, release the button and reconect. • Relocate connection ports: drag the port around the block. • Relocate segments of streams: drag (re-route with Ctrl+J) • 3) PRINT: /File/Print Select a stream and right-click:

  5. Example 1 Draw the following flowsheet, making a copy as similar as possible to the model.

  6. Example 2 Modify the previous flowsheet, without deleting neither blocks nor streams, to match the following process flow diagram.

  7. Example DIP_02 • Monochlorobenzene by benzene chlorination: BEN + CL2  MCB + HCL • Feed stream: 100 kmol/h, 50%mol, BEN and CL2, 20ºC, 1 bar • Reactor yield: 40% of BEN, at 25ºC. • Properties: NRTL (Henry components: CL2, HCL) 1 2

  8. DIP_02a

  9. DIP_02b Acetone recovery: compress to 5 bar (polytropic GPSA) and cool down to 40ºC.
