Athena’s Myth Athena and Poseidon competed for the affections of the Greeks, each providing a gift. Poseidon provided a horse or a salt-water spring, while Athena provided the olive tree, giving shade, olives, and oil. The Greeks preferred her gift, named the city after her, and built the Parthenon where Athena is believed to have produced the first olive tree.

Ares’ Myth In the Iliad, Ares promised Athena and Hera that her would fight on the side of the Greeks, but Aphrodite was able to persuade Ares to side with the Trojans. During the war, Diomedes fought with Hector and saw Ares fighting for the Trojans. Diomedes called his soldiers to fall back slowly. Hera saw his interference and asked Zeus for permission to drive Ares away from the battlefield. Hera encouraged Diomedes to attack Ares, so he threw a spear at Ares and his cries made the Greeks and the Trojans tremble. Athena then drove the spear into Ares’ body forcing the Trojans to fall back. Zeus allows the gods to fight in war again and Ares tries to fight Athena to avenge himself for his previous injury, but once again is badly injured when she tosses a huge boulder at him.
Fun Facts About Ares • His appearance was handsome and cruel. He was often depicted carrying a bloodstained spear. • His throne on Mount Olympus was said to be covered in human skin. • He was not well-liked of trusted by the Ancient Greeks. • He was often associated with vultures and dogs.

Hebe’s background Hebe is the daughter of Hera and Hercules. Also the sister of Ares and Eileithyia. She served as the cup bearer at the heavenly feast of the gods. She married Hercules, and later on has to sons. Hebe and Hercules's sons names were Alexiares and Anticetus.
