WARM UP MSA4: ACE 37 a.) X = 3 b.) X = 12 c.) X = 1.5 or 3/2 d.) X = 8.5 e.) X = 15
Prepare for NOTES! • You will need to take out: • Notebooks (paper) • Pencil • One or two colors (pen or colored pencil) • You will NOT need out: • Calculators • Rulers • DEAR books • CMP2 book
Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides!!! • Your mission is to combine like terms to get the numbers on one side of the equal sign and the variables on the other side Steps • Combine like terms on each side of equal sign using given operation • Combine like terms on opposite sides of equal sign using Inverse Operations • Solve for the variable using Inverse Operations
EXAMPLES • 5) 2n + n - 4 = 6 + 3n – 15 • 5 10 2p + 5p – 5 = 2 + p + 1 9 18 6 3 12 6 6) 2 (3x + 11) = 6x + 4 • 2) 4x – 5 + 2x = 13 + 9x – 21 • 2x + 9x – 3x + 8 = 16 • 4) 4y – 2 = 6y + 6 • 3) 4(x – 5) + 2 = x + 3
What do you think? Both figures have the same Perimeter. Find each Perimeter. X + 20 X X + 55 X + 15 X + 50
9x – 2 = 10 – 3x x = 1
4) 2n + 12n = 2(n + 12) n = 2
a – 4.5 + 2 = 7 + 17a + 4 • 22 11 11 11 a = 11
3( 4x – 2) = 12 X = No Solution
8)The figures have the same perimeter. Find each Perimeter. X + 6 X +2 X X X + 4 PERIMETER = 28 Units
Class Work: Do not write on the sheets. Write work and answers on separate paper. • You MUST complete at least 2 sides of a Worksheet during the class period • Challenge yourself- See how many worksheets you can work though during the class with correct answers! Remember Practice Makes Perfect!!! • SHOW ALL WORK for FULL CREDIT! • Check your answers • Turn them in when done… • HOMEWORK: Moving Straight Ahead: Inv. 3 • ACE 12, 15, 16, 26, 37, 45 • Remember you didn’t have Homework Mon and Tues!
