Narrative Number Six • Members of the committee included: • Russell Co. Adult Education • Russell Co. Industrial Development Authority • Lake Cumberland Area Development District • Cumberland's WIA • Russell Co. Fiscal Court • Somerset Community College KCTCS • Russell County School District • Elected Officials of Russell Co. : Mayor, County Judge Executive, Etc. • Business and Industrial Leaders: Fruit of the Loom, Superior Battery, Etc. • Duo-County Telephone Cooperative • Others • The Kentucky Work Ready Communities application was a collaborative effort.
Narrative Number Six • Broadband Availability for 90% of housing units at 3 Mbs speeds
Narrative Number Six • Due to inaccurate reporting , the National Broadband Map was inaccurate. • Finley Engineering Company, Inc. attached a letter to clarify the broadband availablity status for Russell County. • Due to efforts of Duo County Telephone Cooperative, which is located in Russell County , the engineering company stated the 99% of Russell County is available to businesses and households.
Narrative Number Six • Finley Engineering Company went on the state that the households and businesses of Russell County have no less that 4 Mbps available. • In addition to the broadband, there are services such as 100Mbps Ethernet , Voice and IP, and diverse circuits which are vitally important to many business owners.
Narrative Number Six • Getting Broadband • You could contact local government officials such as your mayor, county executive, or town or county council members and ask them to partner together to attract broadband service providers to your area.
Narrative Number Six • The benefits of broadband to economic life make it an essential element to local and regional economic development in the 21 century. • Because it is usually expensive to extend a broadband network to a new area, the more individuals that you can find to pre-subscribe to a provider’s service, the more likely it is that a broadband provider will choose to serve your area. • Your county may be able to offer a broadband provider video franchise rights, or other incentives to make things more attractive to potential providers.
Narrative Number Six • If your community does not meet the criteria for Work Ready status , then develop a plan to meet the goals.
Narrative Number Six • The Plan • Create partnerships among community organizations and institutions that might benefit form broadband deployment • Systematic assessment of the community’s needs for broadband service • Consolidating demand within the community to make service profitable for the broadband providers. • Participants may include, individual consumers, businesses, educational institutions, health care facilities , and government agencies.
