  1. March 9, 2011 Ideas and Content“Hamlet” Day 3 • Evaluate paragraph 2 for important pieces of information. Does it seem like anything is missing? • What was Hamlet’s father’s occupation before his murder? • Who is Claudius’ brother? • Would the fact that Hamlet’s father was the former king and was Claudius’ brother be important information to include in the essay? Why or why not? • Remember this essay is about MOTIVATION. • Add the information about Hamlet’s father to the essay.

  2. Student Goals • Share evaluation of and information from article. • Plan rough draft. • Practice identifying tone in a poem.

  3. Group Set-up • We will be working in large groups today. • You will need to adhere to the rules. • No talking out of turn. • No talking, whispering, face-making when others are sharing. • Raise your hand to be recognized. • You will make circles with the chairs so that you can see and hear everyone. • You will choose a leader. • You will choose a timekeeper. • You will choose a recorder.

  4. Leader • This person will make sure everyone takes turns. • He/she will call on others to add to the discussion. • He/she will keep everyone on topic. • He/she will handle the discussion in a polite, serious manner. • He/she will have to pay attention at all times.

  5. Timekeeper • This person will make sure everyone sticks to the time limit. 1 minute per speaker. • He/she will politely remind everyone of the time limits. • Allow two or three minutes of discussion after each speaker. • He/she will perform his/her duty in a polite, serious manner. • He/she will have to pay attention at all times.

  6. Recorder • This person will take notes about the discussion. • The notes should have all the group members’ names and story title on the top. • He/she will write down who is speaking and which article he/she read. • He/she will write a brief summary of the information the speaker shares. • He/she will have to pay attention at all times and be FAST.

  7. Group Share Time 1 minute to share! • Decide who will talk first. • Find out who read which article. • Make all the people who read the same article go one after the other. • Allow each person to finish speaking about his/her article before asking questions. • You should have multiple copies of the article available for your group members to see. • Keep your own notes about which articles you might want to read. • Record the titles so you can find article easily. • Decide which article you will read next.
