  1. A town on the Danube, in the vicinity of Belgrade. As legend has it, Roman emperor Probus (3rd century) first planted the grape-wine cuttings he brought back from Asia to Smederevo. When despot Djuradj Brankovich built a fortress and made it his capital, Smederevo became one of the most important towns in Serbia.

  2. The population increase is related to a large number of refugees and internal displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija. The bigest refugee camp in Serbia is in Smederevo (about 600 refugees at a moment). Smederevo is an industrial city, and the center of the steel industry of Serbia. The factory previously known as Sartid was purchased by U.S. Steel in 2003.

  3. RC Smederevo has been officially registered 30.06.2006. Today it has 29members from Smederevo, Smederevska Palankaand Velika Plana.

  4. Accepting friendship and rotary ideas club had in shortperiod of existence initiated and realized several actions: • Project for settlement and implant of Papazovac kindergarten in 2006. • Build up of ramp for disabled persons in Smederevo Centar of Culture building, with distribution of wheelchairs received from RI 2006. • Donation of 10 air-conditioning units to local hospital ZC Sv.Luka in Smederevo 2006.

  5. Also some smaller actions: • books donations • humanitarian packages • financial support to Icon painting colony - Jasenak 2006. and 2007. • support some of most poorly families in co-operation with local Social Care Centre

  6. In September 2007. started, hopefully in future traditional, Rotarian assembly on 120thSmederevo Autumn tourist manifestation • At that event we started ambitious project that will occupy us in 2008 which is: • Settling and equipping of Children department of local hospital in ZC Sv.Luka in Smederevo
