Did You know… • The Arctic coast line erodes 100 feet each year • The worst loses were seen along the Laptev, East Siberian, and Beaufort seas. • Coastal erosion doesn’t just mean a loss of total land area, the loss can also change local ecosystems. • There is an erosion rate of 1.6 ft of permafrost.
Things it effects • People • Animal habitats get destroyed then have to look for a new home. • Buildings can be destroyed because the soil becomes to weak and the building collapse. • Nature • Storms can also move and effect pieces of land creating new land.
What if…? • With to much weathering the water level in the arctic could rise because the rocks underneath the water would weather creating more room for water to seep in. • If there were to less, the water would shrink because of global warming. That wouldn’t be good.
