How to Prevent Accidents in Construction Sites.
E N D
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction work is the second most dangerous occupation in Connecticut. The international edition of The New York Times reported in June 2008 that “contractors routinely skip much-needed examinations for wear-and-tear” of machinery. This negligence leaves construction workers vulnerable to injury and even death.
Following are some recommended precautions to prevent construction accidents:
Scaffoldings Scaffoldings should have the recommended guardrails, midrails and toeboards. Scaffolding should never be erected closer than 10 feet to power lines. Construction workers should be aware of these precaution and refuse to work under unsafe conditions.
Ladders Always inspect a ladder and mark it as defective if you see a problem. Mind the maximum recommended weight allowance and never use too close to power lines.
Cranes Crane weight loads should be observed and the condition of the moving parts inspected regularly. Construction workers should be aware of the cranes' swing radius.
Awareness This includes knowing the correct way to operate a machine or tool, being well rested and refraining from drug or alcohol use that could impair judgment.
Report Concerns When something isn't right, it should be reported immediately. If a smaller problem isn't corrected right away, it can easily become a much more serious problem.
Following Safety Precautions Tools and machinery should be used as instructed. Protective gear such as hardhats and eyewear must be worn.
High-Visibility Apparel Make sure everyone on the ground is wearing high-visibility apparel.
