Little Women Literature Final Exam Presentation Sammy Hong H9
Author: Louisa M. Alcott Birth: November 29, 1832. Birthplace: German town (now part of Philadelphia.) Her life: Louisa grow up in an intellectual and non-conventional environment. Her education served to foster her love and dedication to writing, acting, education and women's rights. During the Civil War, Alcott went to Washington, D.C. to serve as a nurse. Religion: X (not found) Reason why she wrote Little Women: There aren’t any specific reason why Louisa May Alcott wrote ‘Little Women’ but her life was very similar to this story. Very poor, didn’t have food and characteristic of character Jo was very similar to her.
Background of the Story Night before Christmas. (Christmas Eve.) Tense atmosphere. “poor” “sad” “grumbled” “darkened” “fighting” “Let Marmee think that we are getting things for ourselves, and then surprise her. We must go shopping tomorrow afternoon, Meg; there is so much to do about the play for Christmas night”
Summary of the story Meg,17 Josephine (Jo) 16 Beth,14 Amy,12 Together they brave their poor surroundings and survive without the man of the house. Meanwhile, trying to insinuate himself into their lives is Laurie, a good looking very rich neighbor who is being tutored by another good looking man who fancies Meg. Laurie loves Jo and Amy is jealous. The girls do little betrayals to each other but still love each other in the end.
Conflict The central problem is that there is love triangle between Jo and Amy and Laurie. -> Laurie loves Jo but Jo doesn’t and Amy loves Laurie.
Climax Father and Beth health was in a critical condition. ->Father is in a war and Beth volunteer to help sick kid so she got infected. I felt sad and felt sorry for them because they are very poor and they couldn’t have any medical treatment. I also have a mother who is really sick so I really know how it feels. I would do my best to help my family and to earn some money to get some medical treatment.
Character 1 Meg (17) the sensible one Josephine (Jo) 16, the tomboyish writer with a lust for life. Beth,14, the so-called shy girl who has enough extroversion in her to go to a poor family's house. Amy,12, the extroverted loudmouthed selfish girl who loves art. Sentence that shows Jo’s personality: Jo immediately sat up, put her hands in her pockets, and began to whistle. “Don’t Jo; it’s boyish!” “That’s why I do it.” “It detest rude, unladylike girls!” “I hate affected, niminy-piminy chits!”
Characters 2 I would like to meet Jo~ -> because I think Jo would be a cool person to meet and she’s not girly so it won’t be too stressful to talk with. I would ask why she denied Laurie’s propose…
Ending The ending was happy ending. Everybody was all happy and got married with their lovers. Beth and their father got cured. I was kind of surprised because usually when I read other old stories character would get sick and die. However, I still like the happy ending because in the story they really had a lot of difficulties.
Moral Teaching Do our best when the time is given. Help others like your family.
First impression and Final Words I choose this book because I knew that it was famous and I thought that I must read it. When I first saw this book it was older than I thought and longer than I thought. I thought that this story was very interesting and I liked it. There weren’t almost any conflict on Meg if there was conflict on Meg maybe, the story could be more interesting.
