  2. Basic Facts about Boogie Boards • Vendor: Improv Electronics • Board Used: 8.5 Original LCD eWriter • Cost: $30 • $20 for Boogie Board (Educational Discount Price) • $5 for Neoprene Protective Sleeve • $5 for Custom MDC Header • Battery life: 50,000 erases

  3. Basic Facts about Pilot • Medical Campus • July 23, 2013 – August 23, 2013 • Still being used at Medical • Boogie Boards used during pilot: 313 • Student surveys collected: 68 • 43% of students surveyed commented (or 29 comments) • Staff surveys collected: 7

  4. Student Likert Scale Results

  5. Student Key Comment Areas

  6. Staff Likert Scale Results

  7. Student Finding • Overall rating was above average • Students: • Recognized benefit of the Boogie Board • Commented that larger boards would be better • Would like • The board to allow for several pages to be written before erasing • The ability to erase just a portion of the board • Commented on several minor issues such as noise and darkness of board background

  8. Staff Findings • Distribution and collection process was easier with individuals than with groups • The ID collection and return process could use some work • They heard very few complaints • They heard compliments about 50% of the time • They did notice that the majority of students did request scratch paper

  9. Conclusions • The majority used the boards without incident or complaint • The boards used were the smaller version sold by the vendor which may explain some of the dissatisfaction • Boards are currently do not allow for erasing sections or for storing multiple pages before erasing • No timeline from vendor on an update for this • Work best with non-math proctored testing

  10. Recommendations • Purchase the larger 10.5 Original LCD eWriters and pilot their use. • Use a hybrid approach of 8.5 and 10.5 eWriters • Also use a hybrid approach with limited scratch paper for math heavy tests or receive the scratch paper when they reach the math section • Continue to use and pilot the boards employing new strategies • This may be a good tool to promote in other areas at the College such as Learning Resources
