FACT Meeting April 19, 2012 Port of Garibaldi Commercial Ave. Wharf Reconstruction $4,123,000 Project Estimate
ABOUT THE PORT OF GARIBALDI… • All 23 available buildings are currently leased. The sole piece of land not currently leased is the port’s 13 acre dredge disposal site. • Port has 159 acres of leasable land of which 143 acres are leased or used for public rights of way. (90%) • 250 direct jobs resulting in annual gross sales of over $54MM*. • 186 indirect/induced jobs resulting in annual gross sales of over $23MM*. • Each leased/public use acre equates to three jobs and $538K in annual gross sales. (*Source: IMPLAN model for Tillamook County; analysis by Todd Chase.) • The Port has been approached by a half dozen companies to lease space on it’s 1941 commercial wharf. Unfortunately, the wharf can support 95 lbs. per s.f. and most of the uses need 275 lbs per s.f.
ABOUT THE PORT OF GARIBALDI… • Own and manage a 277-slip marina. Approximately 70 commercial fishing boats including 17 charter/guide boats. Marina has been at full capacity for decades. • Over 20,000 outbound bar crossing (2,700+ commercial) in 2011. • Eighty-five (85%) percent of the state’s clam harvest is landed in Tillamook County. Significant amounts of dungeness crab, albacore, salmon and rockfish are also landed in Tillamook. • No.1 Recreational Ocean Salmon fishing port in Oregon (22% compared to #2 Newport’s 16% of state catch). ODFW/OCZMA 2012. • In 2009, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repaired and capped the north Tillamook jetty at a cost of $18,000,000. • Now it’s time for Tillamook County to upgrade 20,000 s.f. of wharf frontage to support higher and better uses…
