How would you use MI Based on Transtheoretical Change Theory? • *first 4 stages represent crises • Precontemplation – denial is prominent, provide understanding, support, and info: safety, plan, resources • Contemplation - guilt/distress/suicide risk, need support group, C-R, empowerment • Preparation- anger, ct works on planning • Action- grief, ct can work on behavioral changes such as assertiveness, self sufficiency • Maintenance - relapse prevention, future self sufficiency, family issues, skills, career planning, can explore past hx: PTSD • Termination – may develop a new schema that forgives partner and allows self acceptance, long term planning/boosters helpful
