Opening Pitch A summary of your business plan that describes: • The market need • The market opportunity • The customer • The idea/product
The Market Need • A description of your ideal customer. E.g., "Meet Joe, a 20-year old college student, who.." • The pain point you're addressing. E.g., "Joe can't find places to eat healthy food cheaply!"
Market Analysis • Size of market in terms of numbers. E.g., the number of 20-year olds, if that's your target demographic. • Size of market in terms of dollar value. E.g., based on sales of similar products or other metrics. • How much of the market will you capture? • Competition: who are the other players in the field? • Other relevant details.
Idea/Product • Brief description of the idea/product itself: what are you selling? • What will you deliver to the Customer? • What is your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)? • What is your unfair advantage? • Feasibility: can it be done? • Relevant important factors such as technologies used, etc.: where are you getting it from?
Business Considerations • Revenue generation/Cost/Profit: how do you make money? • Marketing/Channels: how do your reach your customers? • Other relevant details such as pricing, etc.
Team • Who are you? • Why are you qualified to do this? • How have you divided duties among yourselves? • Who is the leader?
Presentation Tips • Hook the audience with your opening. • Be clear and concise. • Avoid geek speak or technical jargon. • Emphasize the market opportunity, and how your idea/product takes advantage of it. • Do not treat the template as rigid; it is simply a list of the information your presentation must have. The actual wordings and organization are up to you.
