  4. The Band & Colorguard Year

  5. Student Participation Fees • $280 for the year. • Additional $30 for Colorguard and Drumline for equipment use. • Due in 2 payments (or all at once). • $150 due at Band Camp Check-in on August 22. • Equipment Fee for Colorguard or Drumline members is also due on 8/22. • $130 due before October 6. • New band members must purchase black DrillMasters shoes ($26 at Marching World). • Colorguard members will need to purchase gloves and shoes as well.

  8. Where does the money go? • The Boosters raise over $90,000 per year for the Band & Colorguard students at Savanna. • $1,000 comes from the school. • $33,000 comes from participation fees. • Fundraising and events make up the balance.

What can parents do to help?Page 1 of 4 • Assist with getting corporate sponsorships • Audio/Electronics • Bleacher Bench Papering Crew (Cover bleachers at football games) • Bookkeeping • Calligraphy • Chaperoning Competitions, Football Games, etc. • Driving a small truck (Regular Class-C License) • Driving the Equipment Truck (Commercial Class-A License) • Fundraising – Contact vendors, distribute items, collect and account for money • Gopher/Run Errands • Graphic Arts/Layout

What can parents do to help?Page 2 of 4 • Handing out water at games and competitions • Help processing forms (Medical forms, Volunteer forms, Permission slips, etc) • Help students get ready for games & competitions. (Uniforms, gloves, hair, etc.) • Help with loading and moving equipment at games and competitions • Help with planning the awards banquet in June • Helping Out during Band Camp (Bringing Popsicles & fruit in the afternoons) • Helping with Publicity/Public Relations • Making Phone Calls • Making Poster & Banners • Mechanical (Truck, Trailer, or Electric Cart) • Medical/First Aid

What can parents do to help?Page 3 of 4 • Motor Home / Trailer to use for events (Rummage Sale, Field Tournament, etc.) • Newsletter help • Office help – We need help in the band office processing paperwork a few days per week. • Painting and Designing Props • Photography (Stills) • Photography (Video) – We’ll provide the video camera • Preparing Food for Events • Printing – Tournament Programs, Newsletters, etc. • Provide legal advice • Seeking Out and Writing Grants • Sewing Flags/Hemming Uniforms

What can parents do to help?Page 4 of 4 • Staffing a snack table or working as an usher at band concerts • Translating documents from English into Spanish • Travel Agent • Typing/Word Processing • Using Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations • Using Microsoft Publisher or other page layout software • Video Editing – Help with Recruiting Video • Web site maintenance and updating • Welding (What type?___________________) • Woodworking – Framing and cabinetry-type projects • Working on Taxes

Parent Participation Monthly Parent Meetings on Thursdays A $50 Credit will be issued to any student who has an Adult Volunteer work at the Field Show Tournament in November, the Long Beach Grand Prix, and at one of the 2 Car Washes listed below An “Adult Volunteer” is a responsible adult over the age of 25. Credit will only be issued if account has been paid in full.

Major Parent Events 2005-2006 • Potluck Dinner – End of Band Camp • Car Wash/Rummage Sale – 2 per year • Football Games – Thursdays & Fridays in the Fall • Band Competitions – Saturdays in the Fall • Savanna Field Tournament – November 19, 2005 • Winter Band Concert – December 21, 2005 • Long Beach Grand Prix – April 7 thru 9, 2006 • Savanna Showcase BBQ – May 5, 2006 • Spring Band Concert – May 25, 2006 • Awards Banquet – June 1, 2006

The Equipment Truck Project We need: • Welders & Metal Fabricators • Carpenters and General Woodworking Help • A 10,000 Watt Generator – Diesel or Gasoline • Halogen Work Lighting • Sheets of Plywood and 2x4x8 studs – Pressure Treated • Semi-Trailer Cargo Control Bars – Lots of them • and about $10,000

The Equipment Truck Project Fundraising • Massive Donation Drive in exchange for Business and Individual Family or Donor Decals on Truck DONATION LEVELDECAL SIZEDONATION AMOUNT Director’s Circle 24” x 36” $2,000 Rebel Pride Club 12” x 24” $1,500 Red Level 12” x 18” $1,000 Gray Level 12” x 12” $500 White Level 5” x 24” $250 • All Donations are Tax Deductible and donors will receive a letter for their taxes as well as a free advertisement in the Field Tournament Program.

Summer Rehearsals • Woodwinds, Brass, and Colorguard: • Mondays & Wednesdays from 2PM to 4PM starting July 11 and ending July 27. • Drumline: • Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5PM to 7PM starting July 12 and ending July 28. • Students will be working with professional performers and individual section coaches during these rehearsals.

  20. Band Camp • Band Camp begins August 18th for Colorguard, Drumline, Section Leaders, and all new members. • Rehearsals are from 9AM to 5PM with a 1-hour lunch from 12:30 to 1:30. • Returning wind players will begin on August 22. • Potluck Dinner and Preview Night on the last day of Camp (September 1)

Band Camp – Part Two Stuff to Bring • Water Jug (with actual water in it…clean water) • Sunscreen, Hat, Sunglasses • Comfortable loose-fitting clothing • No Jeans. • Good Athletic Shoes (no old Converse or sandals) • Sack lunch (or $$ for lunch) • A clean, playable instrument • A 3-ring binder with plastic sheet protectors • Pens & Pencils • A small (3” by 5”) spiral bound memo pad • $150 1st Payment (or all $280)

  22. Band Camp – It keeps going, and going…. Sample Schedule: • 9:00AM-9:30AM: Stretch, Endurance and Strength Training • 9:30AM-10:30AM: Marching Fundamentals • 10:30AM – 12:30PM: Learning Drill Formations • 12:30PM – 1:30PM Lunch • 1:30PM – 2:45PM: Sectional Rehearsals with coaches • 2:45PM – 3:45PM: Music Ensemble Rehearsal • 3:45PM – 5:00PM: Marching & Playing music and new drill

  23. What to expect in the Summer • Students should practice and memorize their scales and exercises. • Students should learn and memorize their music for the marching band show. • Students should practice at least 20 minutes/day on their own OUTSIDE of group rehearsal time. • Rehearsals are not “practice sessions.” • Students will not be issued a spot in the field show until they have passed their music memorization tests.
