  1. Types of Numbers

  2. Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iE3iTOsE08

  3. Natural numbers are also called counting numbers and includes all positive numbers greater than zero. Examples: 300, 2, 1, 4, 9999

  4. Whole numbers include zero and any numbers greater than zero. Examples: 0, 12, 333, 24, 9888

  5. Integers- any whole number and its opposite. (Both positive and negative) Examples: 5, -5, 33,-33, 8, -8

  6. PositiveIntegers-integers starting at 1 and continuing on the right side of zero on the number line. All positive numbers are greater that negative numbers and also greater than zero. • Examples: 1, 88, 3, 6, 9 etc….

  7. Negative Numbers-integers start from -1 and continue to the left of zero on the number line. All negative numbers are less that zero and less that any positive number. Examples: -2, -45, -6 , -537, etc..

  8. Fractions- Part of a whole, located between integers on a number line. • Examples: -2/5 , 5/8 , 9/2

  9. Rational numbers- numbers that can be written as a ratios of two integers. It can be a fraction, integer, whole number, or a natural numbers. Examples: -1/2, 3.7, -9, 5, etc…

  10. Rational numbers are any numbers that may be written as a ratio (fraction) where the denominator is not zero. IN OTHER WORDS IF YOU CAN WRITE THE NUMBER AS A FRACTION (EVEN OVER 1) THEN IT IS A RATIONAL NUMBER.

  11. :CAN YOU ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION? Give and example of a number that is a whole number but not an integer. Is 3 a rational number? Why? Which is larger -5 or -6? How do you know? Give an example of a rational number that is not a whole number? What makes a number an integer? What is special about zero. Is 2.5 a rational number? Why? How do you convert a mixed number into an improper fraction?

  12. Answers 1. 0 is a whole number but not an integer. 2. 3 is a rational number because all rational numbers can be written as fractions. And to write 3 as a fraction you just put a 1 under it. (3/1) 3. -5 is larger than -6 because it is closer to zero or because -5 is to the right of -6. • ½ is a rational number that is not a whole number. Any positive or negative fraction or mixed number could be your answer. • An integer is any whole number and its opposite. • Zero is not even or odd, not prime or composite, not positive or negative, it has no value but is simply a place holder. • 2.5 is a rational number because it can be written as a fraction. 2 5/10 = 25/10 8. You multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numeratior. This will be your top number and you bottom stays the same. Ex. 3 ½ = 2 x 3 + 1 = 7/2
