Tuesday, April 21, 2009 6:30 am: Arrive at HKMS 7:00 am: Depart HKMS 12:00 pm: Stop at rest stop for lunch $ 3:00 pm: Arrive in VA. 3:00 pm: Check in Hyatt Dulles 4:00 pm: Depart 4:15 pm: Visit Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (VA) 6:30 pm: Dinner at Fashion Center Mall in Pentagon City 7:30 pm: Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial 9:30 pm: Return to Hotel Itinerary: “Experience, travel – these are as education in themselves” Euripides (Greek playwright, c. 480-406 BC)

Day 2: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 6:30-7:15 am: Breakfast in hotel 7:30 am: Depart hotel for Mount Vernon 11:30 am: Lunch $ at the Mount Vernon Food Court 12:15 pm: Depart for U.S. Capitol Visitor’s Center 2:30 pm: Visit the U.S. Library of Congress 4:00 pm: Visit the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum 6:00 pm: Dinner at Fashion Center Mall in Pentagon City 7:00 pm: Visit Iwo Jima Memorial and Air Force Memorial 9:00 pm: Take a guided tour of historic Alexandria. “Travel teaches toleration.”  Benjamin Disraeli (British Prime Minister and Novelist. 1804-1881)

Day 3: Thursday, April 23, 2009 6:30-7:15 am: Breakfast in hotel 7:30 am: Depart hotel for Arlington National Cemetery 12:15 pm: Lunch$ at Museum of American History 2:30 pm: Natural Museum of History 4:00 pm: Depart National Mall 5:00 pm: White House Photo Op. 6:00 pm: Depart for National Mall 6:30 pm: Buffet Dinner at Philip’s Flagship 8:00 pm: Visit Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial 10:00 pm: Return to hotel

  6. Day 4 Friday, April 24, 2009 6:30-7:15 am: Breakfast in hotel 7:30 am: Depart hotel for F.D.R. Memorial 10:30 am: Arrive at the United States Holocaust Museum 1:30 pm: Depart for H.K.M.S. - Lunch en route $ - Dinner en route $ 9-10:00 pm: Return to H.K.M.S.

Expectations: • Student travelers will: • Follow instructions from all chaperones and tour guides • Check in with chaperones on a frequent basis • Pay close attention during attendance/roll call • Take care of each other • Never go anywhere alone – Buddy System at all times • Stay with their groups when directed to do so • Be appropriate on the bus, in the hotel, and on tour • Be polite • Learn while having a memorable experience

  10. What to Bring: • Yes: • Personal Music Player/MP3 with headphones • Books/Magazines • Handheld Video Games • Snacks for bus and hotel (No Glass or Cans) • Cards/Games • Small cooler for bus • DVDs for bus (G, PG, PG-13) • Camera • Money for 5 meals and souvenirs (50$)

  11. What Not To Bring: • No: • Illegal substances based on HKMS code of conduct • Dangerous/harmful objects (Swiss Army knife, scissors, etc.) • Video Games or DVD players that connect to TV • Expensive jewelry, cameras, electronics

  12. Luggage/Bags: • One bag under the bus with clothing – there will be no access until we arrive at the hotel. • Carry-on for the bus with snacks and entertainment (small enough to fit in overhead compartment) • No backpacks or large bags carried during the day. • Parents are urged to check all luggage prior to departure.

  13. Medication • Health Form • Individual letter outlining your child’s medical needs • Registered Nurse on trip • No student may carry his/her meds, including over-the-counter medication (Advil, Tylenol, etc.) • No student may give any medication to another student

  14. Communication: • Cell Phones: • Off and put away! • Chaperones should never see the phones • Phones will be taken when used inappropriately • Examples of inappropriate use: • Talking/Texting while on bus • Talking/Texting while on tour • Talking/Texting while at dinner • Taking Pictures/Video • Examples of acceptable use: • Emergency situations • To call parents from the hotel • To call parents about arrival time on • Friday night

  15. Help! • Talk to your children about: • Time Management • Roll Calls • Behavior Expectations • Hotel (hallways, rooms, sleep, noise, phones) • Security Guards
