  3. Copernicus’ Background Born in Poland Never was a professional astronomer Spent decades gathering information, which was not published until shortly before his death It was called “On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres”

  4. Copernicus’ Theories There is no center of the universe Rotation of the earth accounts for the rotation of the stars The changing of seasons is due to Earth revolving around the sun It was believed that his new theories could help improve the Julian Calendar

  5. Problems with the Theory The Church will not like it because they argue that now man can explain everything about God (no mystery) There are still some loopholes: Copernicus said planets rotate in circular paths Johannes Kepler will prove they move in elliptical patterns
