Have the students look at the alphabet on their name plate. • Teacher inputs, “There are five vowels. The other letters are called consonants. What are the five vowels?” • After the students answer have them draw a star or put a star sticker above the vowels. • Remind the students that every word or syllable must have a vowel.
Chart cards • Display card that captures the sound(s) being worked on in a pocket chart or the board. M
Tracing • The student will then trace in sand or on a plastic needlework sheet the same letters saying the letter’s sound instead of it’s name.
Fingerspelling • Teacher puts up one finger for each sound. Remember to start with the thumb. /m/ /o/ /m/ 3 • Teach sweeps finger together while students blends the sounds together and identifies the word.
