  2. The accounts • Numbered cosc648 to cosc701 • If you missed class, you can ask any of the TAs • Passwords are 9 characters • PeopleSoft ID number followed by capitalized last and first initial of your name. • In short, that's PSID+L+F

  3. Example • Password for Fudd, Elmer J with PeopleSoft ID 1112222 is • 1112222 + F + E = 1112222FE

  4. Accessing your account (I) • From a Windows computer • Download putty.exe from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html • Select • bayou.cs.uh.edu as Host Name • SSH as Connection type

  5. Accessing your account (I) • From a Windows computer: • Download putty.exe from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html • Start it and select • bayou.cs.uh.edu as Host Name • SSH as Connection type

  6. Accessing your account (II) • From a Mac: • Mac OS X has a built-in SSH client called Terminal • On most systems, you can find it in Applications > Utilities folder • Start it and type:ssh <your userID>@bayou.cs.uh.edu By the way, the Mac Terminal appis a full-fledged UNIX shell

  7. Accessing your account (III) • From an Android device: • Go to Google Play Store • Download a free terminal app • I use Connectbot:http://code.google.com/p/connectbot/ • Do not expect to do too much work with it!

  8. Accessing your account (IV) • From a Linux computer: • Open a shell and type:ssh <your userID>@bayou.cs.uh.edu • It also works for Cygwin

A last word • Change your passwords ASAP • You are responsible for any misuse of your account by yourself or a third party • An easy way to create strong passwords is to start with an easy to remember sentence: • When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people • Witcoheitbnfop or W1tc0he1tbnf0p
