  3. What will you learn? NDSU's English Department recognizes that languages and literatures are prime expressions of cultures, and it is dedicated to exploring what connects cultures as well as what distinguishes them. Whether investigating literature from Ireland, literacy research, new media production, or the rhetoric of the health professions, the departments explores texts and cultures on a global scale.

  4. M.A. Graduation Requirements • 27 credit hours of letter-graded course work • Overall GPA of 3.0 or better • 3-4 credit Master’s paper or 6-10 credit Master’s Thesis • Students must have intermediate competency in one foreign language by the time the time the program of study is completed.

  5. Ph.D. Admissions Requirements • 3.5 GPA • Official transcripts • 3 letters of recommendation • TOEFL exams for international students • The final deadlines for admission: • April 1 (Fall semester) • November 1 (Spring semester).

  6. Ph.D. Graduation Requirements • 60 credits past the Master’s level • Experiential or field experience credits • Comprehensive examination after coursework completion • Dissertation and dissertation defense • Language or research competency requirement • 3 years in one language • 2 years in two languages • 2 years in one language plus one special research skill
