What is Nifaq? • Nifaq is derived from the word “nafaqa” means to pass through. • “Nafaq” means tunnel. • “ Naafiqa” means rat’s hole with entry and exit holes.
Why should we learn about NIFAQ? • It is important to know what is Islam and also what is not Islam. • Characteristics of Munafiqoon are detailed in Quran and Hadith for Islah. • Sahaba and Tabeen were worried about NIFAQ. A-Hanzala B-IbnAbeeMulaikah found 30 Sahaba worried about Nifaq. C-Ibrahim Tamimi worried himself. D- HasanBasari,”Only a Munafiq feels safe about Nifaq and Momin is alert about it.
Difference between Kufr and Nifaq. • Kufr- Open denial of Islam and then may confront Islam openly. • Nifaq- Opposes and ambushes Islam in the garb of friendship and support with clandestine planning, strategies and conspiracies.
2 TYPES OF NIFAQ • NIFAQ AQEEDA- ( Hypocrisy in belief). Such people declared Shahada but their hearts were still firm on Kufr. • NIFAQ AMAL-( Hypocrisy in actions)Such people entered Islam but they had weaknesses in their faith.
Reasons for Nifaq Amal • Some entered the fold of Islam following their tribal leaders. • Some still had overwhelming love for this material world and its benefits. • Some had priority of their financial and business ventures and had no time for Akhira. • Others were suffering with doubts about the Risala of Prophet Mohammad (S).
MOTIVES FOR NIFAQ • To damage Islam from inside. • Priority to material benefits and safeguarding self and assets from both sides. • Lack of true understanding of Islam. In Uhad during difficult combat, some expressed doubts about Allah.
TYPES OF MUNAFIQOON I- MUNAFIQ IN BELIEF: • Plotting to damage Islam from inside. . Conspiring for Kufr and apostacy .Enemy spies. .Planting the seeds of divisions.
Types of Munafiqoon 2-Serving selfish motives. . Accepted Islam due to rising Islamic tide. .Double face, trying to benefit from both sides. .Purely materialist. .Greedy for false notoriety and praise.
Types of Munafiqoon II- Munafiqoon Amal or action. 1- Serving selfish material motives. 2- Suffering with doubts.
Actions related to Nifaq.Miqyasun Nifaq. • A-General: • Dicotomy between inside and out. (Fatah, 11) • Selfish and opportunist. (AlNisa,140) • Consider Iman as foolishness.( Baqara, 13) • Happy at the sufferings of Ummah and sad when Ummah flourishes.(Al-Imran, 120)
Actions related to Nifaq. 5-Not to accept the truth because of personal pride. (Baqara, 206) 6-Consider oneself above the need for istighfar. (Munafiqoon,5) 7-Ridicule the statements of Quran.(Mudassir,32) 8-Abandon faith in hardship. (Haj,11) 9-Moving forward in sin and evil deeds.(Maida,62)

Actions related to Nifaq 15-Practice what is -easy in “Ahkam” but avoid what is difficult. (Nisa,77) 16-Earning and eating “Haram”. (Al Maida,62) 17-Deceive in trusts.( Bukhari, kitabuliman.) 18-Use foul language during arguments. (Bukhari) 19-To tell lies. 20-Have animosity against the true believers.
Actions related to Nifaq. • B-QURAN: • Ridicule the ayat of Quran.(Tauba,65) • Pay no attention to ayat and run away from ayat of Quran.(Mudassir,49-50) (Tauba, 127)
Actions related to Nifaq • C-Dawah. • Enjoin evil and forbid goodness. (Tauba, 67) • In order to spread disliking against Islam, accept Islam one day and reject it the next day. (Al Imran,72)
Actions related to Nifaq • D-Salat. • Ridicule Salat, Azan.(Maida, 58) • Consider Salat as a burden, to come to masjid for show and with hesitation. (Nisa, 142)
Actions related to Nifaq • E-Infaq. • Consider spending in the way of Allah as a fine. (Tauba,98) • Spend in Allah’s way with disdain. (Tauba,54) • Show “Bukhl” or miserliness .(Tauba,76) • Ridicule the spending of poor Muslims. (Tauba,79)
Actions related to Nifaq • F-Jihad • Afraid of the call for Jihad. (Mohammed,20) • Present excuses not to go for Jihad.(Tauba,86) • Deny the need for Jihad.(Al Imran,167) • More worried about their self in the field of Jihad.(Al Imran, 154)
Actions related to Nifaq 5-Run away from Jihad to save themselves from harm.(Ahzab,13) 6-Happy to be away from Jihad.(Tauba,81) 7-Discouraging others from joining Jihad. (Ahzab,18) 8-To go for Jihad when there is no danger to life or property.(Tauba,42) 9-When the struggle is over, then welcome the Muslims with good words to win their favor.(Tauba,42)
Actions related to Nifaq. 10-If they have to participate in Jihad, then they would create trouble among the Muslims.(Tauba, 47) 11-Participate in Jihad just for material benefits.(Nisa, 73-Ahzab,19-Tauba,58-Nisa,141)
Actions related to Nifaq • G-Hijra. • Prefer love for family and land and refuse migration when ordered. (Nisa,97) • Live in Kufr system without any reason and cooperate with it.
Actions related to Nifaq. • H-Islamic State and Jamaah. • Sinful “Najwa”. (Mujadla,8) • Spread the news among people which was supposed to be told to leadership. (Nisa, 83) • Keep in touch with both sides to protect self interest.(Nisa,91) • Promote “fitna”. (Nisa,91)
Actions related to Nifaq 5-Keep friendly relation with enemies of Islam.(Nisa,139) 6-Promise to help the enemies.(Hashar,11) 7-Seek respect among the disbelievers.(Nisa, 139) 8-Seek decisions in their matters from courts not deciding according to islamic law.(Nisa,60-Noor,48,49) 9- Prejudice of race and tribes.(Munafiqoon,8)
Difference between Munafiq and sinner. • When a Muslim commits sin: 1- He commits it based upon ignorance or overwhelmed with temporary urge of nafs. 2- After he commits the sin, his conscience bothers him. He turns to Allah and does Tauba and Istighfar. 3-He does not persist on the sin. (Al Imran,135-Tauba,102-Nahal,119)
