  1. Logos… ”Come, let us reason together”In rhetorical writing, the strategy of persuading by appealing to reason as opposed to emotion. This kind of logical argument may include a review of facts, common practices and beliefs, as well as cause/effect, action/consequence, etc.

  2. Ethos… “Let’s make right decisions”In rhetorical writing, the strategy of persuading through an appeal for justice, morality, and adherence to standards of behavior expected of and valued by a particular culture or community.

  3. Pathos…“Place yourself in another’s shoes”In rhetorical writing, the strategy of persuasion through manipulating feelings. This emotional appeal may involve presenting the plight of the poor or helpless, the victimized, or those for whom sympathies may naturally exist (for example, children and other “innocents”). It may also involve calling upon loyalties to family and friends, a sense of patriotism, even religious fervor.
