AoR Environmental Scan: Cerner John Travis – John Travis is a Senior Director and Solution Strategist for Compliance for Cerner. In that role, John focuses on the role of Cerner’s systems in terms of helping Cerner clients comply with federal and industry wide regulatory and accrediting requirements, HIPAA requirements and has led Cerner’s EHR certification efforts to support client participation in the meaningful use incentive program. John is a member of the Implementation Workgroup of the HIT Standards Committee, a committed member of the Data Segmentation Workgroup of the S&I Framework and a past member of HITSP’s Security, Privacy and Infrastructure Workgroup. Steve Ward – Steve Ward is a Senior Director and General Manager for Cerner’s EMR business unit. In that role, Steve oversees core strategies for Cerner’s electronic health record development including for Cerner’s CPOE, Medication Management, electronic prescribing and pharmacy solutions. Steve is a pharmacist by training, and has also overseen Cerner’s development response to meet the requirements of the certification criteria for both the 2011 and 2014 certification criteria sets for meaningful use. Important to the topic at hand, Steve has overseen Cerner’s development efforts for electronic prescribing, CPOE and medication administration where advanced authentication requirements for both State level Board of Pharmacy requirements and for DEA Interim Final Rule for Controlled Substance Electronic Prescribing have prevailed. Kyle Pearson – Kyle Pearson is the lead architect for Cerner’s Security development team, and leads core development efforts for user administration, user authentication, access control and security auditing within Cerner’s Foundations development group. Significant to this discussion, Kyle has collaborated with Cerner’s medication management development teams for addressing the requirements of the DEA Interim Final Rule for electronic prescribing of controlled substances, and provides guidance on the use of advanced authentication technologies within Cerner solutions for clinical workflow.
