What is a network? • A network is 2 or more computers connected to each other.

What is a Lan? • A lan is a network that is connections usually within a small place like a house. • They exist in a single location. • One administrator controls the lan.
What is a Wan? • A wan is a 2 or more lans in 2 different locations like from palmer to wassila. • An example is the internet consisting millions of lans.
What is a Wlan? • A Wlan is a lan connected using wi-fi instead of using copper cabling. • These access points use wi-fi and copper cabling to connect to the network. • The Wlan can span 30m in all directions indoors.
What is a peer-to-peer network? • Each person is responsible for their own resources. • There is no central administration or security. • As the number of computers increases on this network the harder it is to control it. • There is no centralized storage and each pc must perform there own backup.
What is a client/server network? • The client requests a task or information from the server then the server provides what has been requested is provided • Network administrators provide updates, backups, and restrictions. • Each user has to have a username and password. • One example is an e-mail server.
