Gmail Account • First, you need to set up a free gmail account with your name. If you have an existing one you may use that as long as: • A) It has your correct first and last name in the information • B) it’s not somethin like prinzessgurl25turnup@gmail.com • Go to gmail.com and create your account • There is a very easy to use free gmail app available • Make sure to record your username and login for this account somewhere so that you can use it all year
Notability • If you haven’t already, purchase the Notability app for $1.99. • I apologize if this doesn’t allow you to make your next car payment • Go through the set up making sure that you put your correct name and your gmail account as your contact email • Take a few minutes and learn how to use the app • Practice writing, erasing, adding text, etc.
Using Notability • Keep all your packets organized by unit. This will make things easier for you when you turn stuff in and when you study for tests/exams
Using Notability • You are now going to make a sample packet • Go to my website and find the calendar tab and click on it • Find today’s date and click on the option that says “Grade Sheet” • You should see an option that says “Associated Form”
Using Notability • Open the word document and this screen should appear • Click where it says “open in notability” • The document will now upload into the notability app
Using Notability • You will now select “create new note”. This is the start of your unit packet.
Using Notability • Now I want you to change the name of your note to “Test Packet”. Normally you would call this “Unit __ Packet”. • To do this, click on the edit button in the top left corner and erase the current file name.
Using Notability • You are now ready to start adding assignments to your packet • Go back to your internet browser and find my website. Click on the calendar tab again.
Using Notability • Download the word document that says “Activity 1.1” • This would be the first assignment in your packet • After you download the document open it in notability
Using Notability • Once you get to this screen, you will now click on the option that says “add to other note” • This will allow you to put the document in the “Test Packet” file on notability.
Using Notability • Now complete activity 1.1 in your notability app • Once you have written down text, it will automatically save it if you exit out. You can always go back and change it.
Using Notability • Repeat the same process for activity 1.2 • Go to calendar on my website, open activity 1.2 in notability, add document to existing note • There is one thing you need to add once you start filling out activity 1.2
Using Notability • Activity 1.2 is a set of math problems. Many of your chemistry units will be heavily math based and you will need to show your work. • To add a page where you can show your work, click on the icon in the top right corner that looks like 3 pieces of paper. This image should appear • Click on the blue icon that has a plus sign in it on page 5 to the right • Now click where it says “add page below”
Using Notability • You now have a page to show your work, which will often times be mandatory to earn points for that assignment. • After completing activity 1.2, add activity 1.3 to your Test Packet and complete. • Stop after you finish 1.3
Using Notability • Once you finish all 3 assignments, you are ready to email it to me. With your test packet open, click on the destination icon shown to the right • Choose the email option • NOTE: before finalizing your packet, check over all work and DELETE ANY UNUSED PAGES. Do not email a 10 page packet with 20 blank pages.
Using Notability • Click where it says email notes and this screen should appear • You should send emails to me at: esteinert@hoover.k12.al.us • Once you type it in once and send it should save as an option the next time. • IMPORTANT: the subject line needs to always start with your period exactly like you see to the right. Either 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th • Also include which packet you are emailing in the subject line • Send the email once you are finished
Keeping your work • Once I receive your email, it will be sent to your class folder. I will open your test packet in my notability app, check and grade it, and send it back to you. Today I will just check and make sure that I received your test packet. • It is important to keep these emails and keep your packets for studying and ultimately for semester exams. These will be your study packets. • It might be a good idea to print your finalized packets to have a hard copy to study with if you choose to.
