Pay close attention to • due dates so you don’t miss out on these • opportunities to earn college funds!! • Upcoming Scholarship Due Dates: • Mercer University School of Engineering Scholarship – Sept. 24 • Washington University in St. Louis Danforth Scholarship Program – Oct. 15 (needs to be received by this date) • Wendy’s High School Heisman – Oct. 2 • AES Engineers Scholarship – Oct. 4 • Georgia Tech Presidential Scholarship – Oct. 15 • James Weldon Johnson Scholarship (Phi Beta Sigma) – Oct. 18 • Coca Cola Scholars Program – Oct. 31 Forsyth County College PROBE Fair Tuesday, Sept. 10th @ Lanier Tech Conference Center (Permission forms in the counseling office - $5.00) Upcoming College Visits: Sept. 11 – Georgia Gwinnett College Sept. 25 – University of Alabama at Birmingham, Kennesaw State University Oct. 2 – Georgia College & State University Oct. 23 – University of South Carolina Oct. 30 – University of Missouri • Visiting a potential college?? • Seniors are allowed four days to visit prospective colleges. In order to take full advantage and for this absence to be considered excused a Pre-Excused College Visit form must be completed. You will be required to bring back documentation from your visit as well. Pick up the form in the counseling office. **Once you hear announcements for these rep visits, you may come and pick up a pass from the counseling office. Have your teacher sign the pass and be sure to sign in @ the visit!**
Just in case you need another checklist… • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER SENIOR CALENDAR • Explore college websites for admissions information (admission deadlines, tours, visitation dates, financial aid, scholarships). • Schedule a campus visit. • Check out SAT/ACT dates. Retake the tests if you need to. Scores must be sent directly to the colleges. • Prepare a resume/senior information sheet. • Meet application deadlines….once you have your SAT/ACT scores and you feel comfortable with where you are applying….get the applications completed and sent in…..colleges like online applications • Request transcripts and any other supporting documentation from the Counseling office • Aim for November or early December for getting applications sent…some schools may have earlier or later deadlines. • Begin thinking about teachers to write your letters of recommendations. • Research scholarship applications. • Got Transcripts? • Procedure for Requesting a Transcript • Seniors requesting a transcript must get a request form from the counseling office. • There is a $3.00 fee for all transcripts. • If you are sending it to a GA public school the transcript can be sent electronically. • WFHS envelopes are available for mailing hard copies. These must be addressed and stamped (3stamps). • If a recommendation is required from your counselor, please include a resume or senior information sheet. • All paperwork must be given to Mrs. Stromie. • Please allow ten school days for processing requests. • Plan Accordingly! Have you bought your yearbook yet?http://www.WestForsythYearbook.com Senior Dues: $105 (if paid before Jan. 31st) $120 after Jan. 31st Dues include cap & gown, diploma & diploma cover, tassel, & facility. *Payments can be made at www.gabalfour.com Week of Nov. 13 – Balfour Info will be sent home in the mail Nov. 20 & 21 – Balfour Representative will be in the cafeteria at lunch for students to pay Senior dues and/or order cap, gown. & announcements Sept. 11th - Marines will be visiting to discuss the NROTC Scholarship. This Scholarship provides funds to over 150 colleges & universities. Come & get more info in the counseling office!
