  3. Institute of Informatics of TUT The history goes back to the 1966 when our professor emeritus Leo Võhandu founded chair of computational mathematics. Institute of Informatics is focused on mainly on software development. Service oriented architectures, software agents, e- commerce solutions, formal and informal data analysis of systemsare main research directions. This year “Sensor networks and service oriented architectures centre” for connection with industry was founded.

  7. Ambient Intelligence • Computer intelligence is embeded in every physical object and everything is connected together with communication networks (physical objects with decision-making abilities). • Context-aware will be then required for serving such networks.

  8. Context awareness Systems can adapt to various contexts like: • Identity of the user • Spatial information: locations, orientation, speed, acceleration, object relationship in physical space, etc. • Temporal information: time of the day, date, season of the year, etc. • Environmental information: temperature, humidity, air quality, light, noise pattern and level, etc. • Social situation: user’s companionships, the nearby people, family relationships, people that are accessible, etc.

  9. Context awareness Nearby Resources: accessible devices, hosts, other facilities, etc. Resource usability: battery capacity, display resolution, network connectivity, communication bandwidth and cost, etc. Physiological measurements: blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, muscle activities, tone of voice, etc. User’s physical activity: talking, reading, walking, running, driving a car, etc. User’s emotional status: preferences, mood, focus of attention, etc. Schedules and agendas, conventional rules, policies, etc.
