Courtyard Gathering Space Community Environment: This high school attracts enrollment due to its quality programs and is best accommodated in a new facility that is designed to specifically offer the features needed for these CTE programs. Consolidating a group of career academy programs in one location for better articulation among instructors was our goal. This new facility makes it possible to facilitate curriculum integration efforts within the career center, enhance student/teacher networking and faculty interaction. This new facility will foster successful students who will be better prepared for such outcomes as learning industry-standard skills in preparation for transition to employment and/or community colleges/private postsecondary institutions that offer these career technology programs.
Culinary Arts Demonstration Kitchen Learning Environment: Culinary Arts Institute: Stepped lecture hall for food demonstration with a full demonstration kitchen. Lecture hall is flexible with an operable wall to secure demonstration area for various lecture subjects. Adjacent dining room to teach student as waitstaff protocol, host/hostessing and restaurant management. Main kitchen has six cooking stations, bakery, ala carte area, service area, and dish-up areas to focus on food presentation, display of food, and serving. Ware washing.
Public Services Academy Fitness Facility Learning Environment: Continued Public Services Academy: Lecture room for weekly guest speakers. Forensics lab to analyze and research evidence. Fitness center/weight classroom to train students for physical fitness needed for public safety. Fenced obstacle course for training maneuvers and additional fitness activities.
Medical Health Academy Medical Bay Learning Environment: Continued Medical Health Academy: Two (2) lecture/labs with a bank of medical bays shared by both classrooms Lab area is used for emergency responder activities to provide students in protocol in treating patients. Mock front office with reception at entry lobby simulates actual medical office conditions. Lab tables enable hands-on lab work.
Building “M” Career Technical Education Floor Plan and Materials Physical Environment LQHS design of the Career Technology Education (CTE) is an anchor at the end of a new mall concept. The multipurpose room is the other anchor and in-between are structures housing science labs and classrooms. The Culinary Arts Institute, Public Services Academy (PSA) and Medical Health Academy (HSA) are grouped together to create a synergy of learning between these various career pathways. The fabric sheltered courtyard serves as the commons area supporting many various functions – outdoor dining, overflow lecture space from adjacent PSA operable glass door wall lecture classroom, overflow dining from adjacent culinary arts operable glass wall, dining room, health fairs, fund raising, and public outreach events.
Construction is to be Completed in 2 Phases Planning Process: The result of our team’s planning process combined the three career pathways into a two-story building which will build a cross-over of interaction of shared ideas, concepts, techniques to compliment the programs as a whole and as well as enhance the individual program, team spirit and camaraderie was envisioned to be nurtured in this new facility. Amongst students, facility, parents, and community partners. Attached are the Advisory Committee members. On-going meetings during the construction document phase will continue in order to follow through with the envisioned program and to finalize the details.
