  2. Verbs • You are probably wonder what verbs are and what they do. A verb is a part of speech that describes an action or occurrence or indicates a state of being. The Panda climbed the Bamboo. Climbed is the verb.

  3. Action verbs • An action verb tells us what someone is doing eg. The boy kicked the ball. Kicked is the verb.

  4. Linking verbs • A linking verb is a word that links the subject with its predicate. • eg. My favourite animals are cats. Are is the linking verb.

  5. Difference between an action verb and a linking verb • An action verb tells us what something is doing and a linking verb joins the subject with its predicate.

  6. Being verb • A being verb is a show a state of being and it shows feelings. • Eg. I have been in the garden. I have been is the being verb.

  7. Difference between a being and linking verb • A being verb is a verb which helps another verb and a linking verb joins the subject of the sentence with it predicate.

  8. Auxiliary verb • An auxiliary verb determines the mood or tense of another verb in a phrase. Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs. They always come before the main verb. • Eg. I did not invent the light bulb. Did is the auxiliary verb.

  9. Modal • A modal is a verb that combines with another verb to show mood or tense. A modal expresses necessity , uncertainty ,ability or permission. • Eg. I can eat. If you can change the word into a question then it is a modal.

  10. Difference between an auxiliary verb and a modal • Both are helping verbs but an auxiliary verb comes before the verb but the modal can come before or after the verb. They both show mood or tense but the modal shows uncertainty.

  11. Present participle • A present participle look like a verb but it ends in ing. • Next to the present participle you will always find the Auxiliary verb eg. Sarah is swimming in the pool. Swimming is the present participle

  12. Transitive verbs • Transitive verbs depend on the object of the sentence to express the full meaning. If there is an object in a sentence, then the verb is a transitive verb. • eg. Sam ran to the tree. Ran (the verb) depends on tree(the object).

  13. Intransitive verb • Intransitive verbs do not depend on the object to complete the sentence. If there is no object in the sentence then the verb is an intransitive verb. • Eg. The dog barked. Barked is an intransitive verb.
