  4. Failed to Accept Moral Code • O.J. Simpson • Michael Vick • Martha Stewart • Barry Bonds • Eliot Spitzer -Failed to accept moral code within their community

  5. Character • Come from the Greek Charakter which means “to stamp or engrave.” • Your character is defined by the “markings or stamping” of honesty, virtue, decency and goodness (they are stamped or imprinted in you)

Six Pillars of Character • Trustworthiness- Be honest, Don’t Deceive • Respect- Treat others with respect, Tolerate differences • Responsibility- Always use self control, Think before you act, Be accountable • Fairness- Play by the rules, Don’t take advantage of others • Caring- Be kind compassionate and show you care, express gratitude, help the needy • Citizenship- Make your school and community better, Protect the environment, Be a good neighbor

  7. Respect vs. Power Respect can be earned by: • Give respect, you earn respect • Being Fair • Being Honest, even in difficult times • Listening • Empowering others • Asking for opinions and suggestions, creating ownership • Observe you day to day conduct

Be Trustworthy • You can’t trust someone until they are able to prove they are trustworthy. • It is often built over time • Trustworthy people: • Do the right thing even when it not popular • Listen to their conscience • Build a reputation • Constantly try to improve • Support and protect family, friends, and community

  9. Frank Outlaw • Once said: • Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch you habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. • Everything about us affects our character

  10. Honor Your Commitments • Learning to honor your commitments is perhaps one of the most mature, rational, and loving things you can do in this world. • How would you feel if you were stood up on a date? • Hurt, Sad, Angry, Confused • People who honor commitments enrich and improve quality of life
