Research + Influences Character Hands Character Movements 2 3 4 5 1 6 7 8 To come up with the limb and body movement of my character, I studied freeze-frames of the popular limbless character Rayman on PS1.
Ideas + Design Initial Ideas Helmet + Face I decided to pick this helmet as it used all of the elements of the research that I had done. This includes the red feather, golden rim and silver helmet shape. I also went with a large nose to give the character a more friendly appeal. Body I decided to pick this body as it was easy to draw in flash and shows a definite line between the front and back of the character, as well as his armor. I took inspiration from the real roman soldier drawing. Hands I used a three strap sandal as this is what actual Roman soldiers war, as depicted by all the research that I did. I also chose the feet to be rounded and toeless, making them easier to animate without loosing the relevance to my influences. I chose the three finger hand as it was easy to draw and shows a good representation of a real human hand. The thumb can also be used to add to the realism of the character. Toga I decided to add a toga to my soldier as it will add complexity to the simple body armor shape. Feet
Ideas + Design Complete Character Ideas 1 4 2 3 5 Final Character 6 7 Using all of the different parts of my character I designed 7 complete designs, after this I rated them all out of 5 and chose the best design. With a few tweaks I redrew it in flash and coloured it in to be animated.
