  1. THREE TRAGIC MISTAKES “There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Prov. 14:12)

  2. The Way of Salvation • “Men embrace error much the same way a drunk mounts a horse.” • We may make many errors about salvation, but there are three fundamental errors many make. • We are not saved by our church. • We are not saved by our creed. • We are not saved by our conduct.

  3. Salvation is more than Belonging. • Acts 2:47 – Saved are added to the church, but the church doesn’t dispense salvation. • Judas belonged to the right “group”. • If any group ever qualified as “the right group” it was the apostles. • Hand picked and trained by the Lord. • But Judas fell and failed.

  4. Salvation is more than just believing • James 2:19 – even the devils “believe”. • Intellectual insight, even accompanied by emotional response (trembling) does not save. • We need to come to an understanding of what it means to “believe”.

  5. Salvation is more than behaving. • The rich young ruler behaved properly. • One of the most decent people in the gospels, but • “One thing you lack.” • “Not by works of righteousness that we have done…” (Titus 3:5; Eph. 2:8-9).

  6. God wants us to believe, belong and behave. • But first we must come to “know” Jesus – I John 2:1-6. • A drowning man needs air. Once his life is restored, we may be concerned about his behavior and beliefs. But get the order correct. • Knowing and loving Jesus is the incentive to correct all areas of life

  7. The Gospel • Begins with Christ’s sacrifice. • Follows with our obedience, not to “church ordinances”, but to His Will. • Faith in Jesus. Repentance. Confession. Baptism. New Life. • Now, Live. • “He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life” (I John 5:12)
