Purpose • Identify and address any safety deficiencies • This pertains to vessel, vessel operator, passengers, gear… • In a nutshell, the reason the Coast Guard would board you is SAFETY AT SEA
What to Expect • Boarding Duration: approximately 10-15 minutes • More organized paperwork & gear = shorter boarding • Keep ALL documents in a plastic-protected binder • Flexibility: i.e. following the vsl to the pier/dropoff point prior to conducting the boarding (and after taking a head count) • If you indicate a pax is working as a crewmember, be prepared to show drug testing program documentation • We will remain nearby, but we will work with you as efficiently as we can to minimize the disruption of business

At-Sea EnforcementWhat to Expect(Documents & Regulations) • VERIFYING A COASTWISE ENDORSEMENT ON U.S.DOCUMENTED VESSELS 2) ENSURING THE MASTER HAS IN POSSESSION A VALID CG LICENSE (OPERATOR-UPV, MASTER, MATE) 3) ENSURING MASTERS AND CREW ARE AWARE OF DRUG TESTING PROGRAM ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS (IF PERFORMING FUNCTIONS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VESSEL OR ASSISTING PASSENGERS IN AN EMERGENCY) 4) AN EMERGENCY CHECKLIST IS ONBOARD AND ACCESSIBLE
Must state “Coastwise Endorsement” under “Operational Endorsements” section
