  3. The Building • Bronson Alcott purchased the land in 1858 • 12 acres of apple trees • Two houses were joined to make Orchard House • No major structural changes since the Alcotts • 75% of the furnishings belonged to the family

  4. Little Women • In 1868 Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women while living in Orchard House • The house and family in the novel are based on Orchard House and the Alcott family
