  2. What do Software Engineers do? Software Engineers research, design and modify computer codes to write software for a wide range of applications. They apply many techniques to computers and other products to create software programs. Main idea #1

  3. What training do Software Engineers need? Software Engineers typically need a four year college degree. They study lots of math and different types of programming. Main idea #2

  4. How much do Software Engineers earn? On average, Software Engineers make approximately $90,000-$100,000 per year. Main idea #3

  5. What kind of clothes do Software Engineers wear? Software Engineers wear many different types of clothes. Some work from home and wear shorts and a t-shirt. Others work in a formal office environment and wear suits and ties. Main idea #4

  6. When and where do Software Engineers work? Software Engineers work many different hours and at a variety of places. Some work normal office hours (8:00am-5:00pm) while others work throughout the night. Some work in an office environment while others work all over the world at different customer locations.   7. Software Engineers work in a wide variety of fields. Some write programs for computers. The programs can be used for everything from turning on a security system to creating or modifying video games. Other Software Engineers write applications for smart phones. These apps keep the user connected to a world of information. Software Engineering is a stable and growing career because software plays a more important role in our lives every day. Paragraph #1

  8. Software Engineering typically requires a four year bachelor’s degree. In some cases, it is possible to learn the trade through on the job training. Most Software Engineers are good at math and like working on computers. Some of the top colleges for Software Engineering include the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the California Institute of Technology. This is a competitive field, so many Software Engineers go on to get a Masters Degree. Technology is constantly changing, so keeping your skills current is extremely important. Paragraph #2
