  4. HOW DID WE GET HERE? • Family Diaspora: Out-migration of children and grandchildren to other states. • Seniors retired to the South: FL., AZ., NC., • Segregation of Seniors in Senior Apartments, Retirement Communities, Residential Care Facilities. • Increasingly Youth Oriented Culture.

  5. A NEW ELDER PARADIGM PEOPLE: Engage Elders, Caregivers and Community in a very different dynamic. ATTITUDE: See Elders as 'A Hidden Resource' rather than a problem. Look deeper. TECHNOLOGY: Mold existing web-based tools to serve elders in taking control of their lives.

  6. The Gray Tsunami

  10. What a Physician or Community Leader Must Do To Open An Affiliate • Identify at least 10 members to jump-start your affiliate. • Identify your affiliate manager: Ideally a nurse with great people skills. • Complete FCA online tutorial, phone interview, and register for training course. Up to $500 of costs borne by national organization. • National FCA may provide $10,000 start-up loan. • National FCA provides turn-key back office support, template bylaws, member support, live 24/7 affiliate help, R&D, ongoing training, remote monitoring.

  11. FULL CIRCLE AMERICAQUESTIONS • Is this a franchise? Not really. Very individualized menu of services with each affiliate having unique flavor because of its members and volunteers. • Why such generous start-up help? The urgency of the issue demands reducing barriers to rapid growth. • Is FCA capable of such an ambitious agenda? The approach resonates with everyone so far. Some say it sounds too good to be true. It will require ongoing modifications, enhancements, socially responsible investors, and community leaders. But we are doing it now. It is not theoretical!

  12. FULL CIRCLE AMERICAMOREQUESTIONS • Will elders accept this approach? If we offer meaning and purpose, and do not harp on their limitations. • Will they embrace technology and accept surveillance? If presented properly. • Can volunteers be a reliable part of a solution? If we offer purpose and provide bite-sized tasks. • Will leaders step up? If we make it turn-key and provide adequate financial incentives. Doctors, nurses, social workers, churches, community organizations? Current model bloated and choice limited!
