My Early Life • I was born on October 7th in the year 1728 • My place of birth was St. Jones Neck in Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware Kent County
My Early Life (cont.) • At 17, my father died and the Kent County clerk of peace, Nicholas Ridgely became my guardian • At only the age of twenty-two, I was commissioned as the High Sherriff of Kent County • At thirty, I was elected as a representative in the colonial legislature
Main Events (cont.) • In 1776 I signed the Declaration of Independence • Delaware representatives Thomas McKean and George Read were in disagreement in the matter of Independence so my vote decided the matter for the Colony of Delaware
My Travels • I did not travel far from Delaware, where I was born • However I an famous for my ride from Dover, DE to Philadelphia PA • I was riding there so I could cast my vote on the Declaration of Independence and decide for the Colony of Delaware whether to support it or not

Death • I lived a relatively long life for the time • I did manage to serve my colony and country • Sadly I died on June 29th in 1784
