  2. What is GREAT Opportunities? • Our 3 year programme to help local people back into work, training and learning opportunities • To reduce local unemployment and increase job opportunities for residents

  3. Why are we doing it? • Important role in reducing unemployment and in providing opportunities • Welfare Reforms – Universal Credit, BedroomTax, Personal Independence Payment, Benefit Cap.

  4. Desired Outcomes Neighbourhood Plans launched in January 2013 • Improving star ratings for employment in our Neighbourhoods (Focused approach on interventions) • Creating stable and prosperous neighbourhoods • Creating better life chances for all • Reducing unemployment leading to a reduction in benefit dependency

  5. Three Themes • Sign posting and information sharing • Personal development and learning • Employment Opportunities

  6. Partnership Working • Working with other organisations in Tameside to maximise opportunities for local people

  7. Voluntary Work Placements • Over 30 successful placements in 12 months • 10 Job Seekers aged 18 - 24 years old have moved into paid employment

  8. Work Clubs • 12 work clubs in Tameside run every week - Providing unemployed people with places to meet, exchange skills, share experiences, find opportunities, • Selfsmart - Profiles will show – individuals wellbeing, emotional intelligence and preferred learning styles

  9. ESF Family Support Programme • Our payment-by-results ESF Family Support programme • Sub-contractor to G4S focus on adults claiming out of work benefits – welfare to work initiative • One- to-one tailored support • Worked with 137 disadvantaged families with18 people helped into paid employment

  10. Keys to Your Door 111 people have completed the course with 54 housed

  11. Monitoring • Follow up outcomes with individuals • Provide on-going support • Benchmarking • Reporting to Airport Group, New Charter Board, Group Management Team (GMT) and Stakeholders

  12. Staff training • 60 staff have completed employment and skills awareness training in 2013 • Launch of the front line staff ‘worklessness’ booklet, a useful tool for staff to use. • Simple referral process

  13. The results April 2012-March 2013 80local people into paid employment 253people went into training
