What is Ganesh Chathurty? • Ganesh Chathurthy also known as Vinayaka Chathurthy is one of the important festival that is celebrated by the Hindus all over India. • This day is considered to be the birthday of Lord Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. • Lord Ganesh is also known as Vinayaka because of his elephant shaped head. • Lord Ganesh is the symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
Who is Lord ganesh? • Lord Ganesh is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Lord Ganesh is known by over 100 plus different names. 108 different names to be precise. • Lord Ganesh is the start of every auspicious rituals and holy events as he is considered to be the Lord of good fortune and God beginnings. • The two most common and most dearly referred name for Lord Ganesh is Ganapati Bappa and Vinayaka.
Famous Lord Ganesh birth story • There are two different versions of Lord Ganesh’s Birth:- • First:- Goddess Paravthi created Lord Ganesh from dirt out of her body while having a bath and set him to her door as she finished her bath. • Her husband Lord Shiva who was not at the place returns back home and is denied access to enter the house by Lord Ganesh as both of them didn’t know each other. • Out of anger Lord Shiva serves the head of Lord Ganesh after the combat. • After realising who Lord Ganesh was, Lord Shiva promises Goddess Parvathi that Lord Ganesh would live asked his devas to go in search of a man’s head that is facing the north. • The devas failed in finding a man’s head instead he found an elephant’s head facing north and that’s how Lord Ganesh got his head and life back.
Famous Lord Ganesh birth story • Second: The second version of the birth of Lord Ganesh states that Lord Ganesh was created by LordShiva and Goddess Paravthi on the request of a Devas. • Lord Ganesh was created to be the vighnakartaa (obstacle-creator) in the path of demonic beings and also vighnahartaa (obstacle - averter) so as to help the Devas.
When is Ganesh Charthurthy celebrated? • Every year Ganesh Chathurthy is celebrated on Shukla Chathurthy according to the Hindhu month. • In the English calendar this festival mostly falls between the month of August and September. • This year Ganesh Chathurthy is celebrated on the 13th September 2018.
