Perfectly Joined (1 Cor. 1:10-17; 3:1-9)
Unity: Not Just a Matter of Preference • (1 Corinthians 1:10) • Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (NKJV)
Disunity is Carnal-Mindedness • (1 Corinthians 3:5-9) • Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. (NKJV)
Disunity is Carnal-Mindedness • (1 Corinthians 3:1-4) • And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not carnal? (NKJV)
Carnal-Mindedness = DisunitySpiritual-Mindedness = Unity • (1 Corinthians 1:11) • For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you. (NKJV)
Factions = Counter Evangelistic • (1 Corinthians 1:12-13) • Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? (NKJV)
Division of Followers: Contrary To Will of Jesus • (John 17:20) • "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; (NKJV)
Unity: That the World May Know • (John 17:21-23) • "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: "I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (NKJV)
Solution to Disunity • (1 Corinthians 1:10) • Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (NKJV)
Solution to Disunity: Speaking as the Oracles of God • (1 Peter 4:11) • If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (NKJV)
Solution to Disunity • (1 Corinthians 1:10) • Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (NKJV)
Developing the Mind of Christ In Us • (Philippians 2:1-5) • Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (NKJV)
Unity Among First-Century Christians • (Acts 2:44) • Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, (NKJV) • (Acts 2:42) • And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (NKJV)
