Motivation • Clear indication of • AB/CO FEC performance limitation (RIO2) for BT equipment controls, • Decrease of reliability (end of bath curve) for equipment level hardware under BT or CO responsibility. • Good opportunity for • Eradication of obsolete of hardware, • Regain of expertise in low-level equipment controls (hardware & software) and in integration of equipment controls in accelerator controls, • Clarification of equipment controls responsibility between groups, • Homogenization of controls solutions (hardware & Software) within the BT group. Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop, LHC excluded – Beam Transfer Etienne CARLIER – 03-12-2009
Strategy • Renovation strategy for consolidation of BT equipment controls will be based on the responsibility sharing agreements between CO and equipment groups defined in the CO3 (so called “co-operative model”). • Clear separation between the renovation of • “Accelerator Complex Controls” CO responsibility, • “Equipment low-level controls” BT responsibility. • Renovation based 3 independent phases • Phase1: Identification with OP of missing operational functionality for the control of BT equipment, • Phase2: Renovation of CO controls infrastructure and update to FESA of GM classes on the basis of actual low-level hardware, • Phase3: Consolidation of low level hardware. Initial Conditions • FEC hardware situation • 21 VME – 18 RIO2 & 4 RIO3 • 3 PC • Migration to FESA 2.10 started • SL-EQUIP eradicated • MACSy eradicated • GM in progress • Low-level control consolidation ongoing Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop, LHC excluded – Beam Transfer Etienne CARLIER – 03-12-2009
Work Packages • Two different categories of work packages: • Category 1: Work packages induced by the “Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation”, • Category 2: Work packages where renovation of equipment level controls has no link with “Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation” or is planned to be done in accordance with “co-operative model”. • For Category 1 work packages, no resources, manpower & budget, actually planned within BT. Some manpower resources can be retrieved from exploitation. • For Category 2 work packages, resources, manpower & budget (including additional CO support) are planned within BT. Open Issues / Concerns • Responsibility clarification for • PS Complex Electro-static septa control (shared for the moment between AB/PO, AB/CO & AB/BT), • Implementation of the “co-operative model” for slow & fast timing for kicker systems across the injector chain. • Equipment control through generic classes. • FEC sharing between different equipment group • Definition of FESA standard properties • Low-level controls homogeneity across the complete accelerator complex (LHC included) • Same equipment level hardware and software used on 2 different platforms with 2 different operating systems, • Resources needed at equipment group level to maintain two different environments. • OASIS Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation Workshop, LHC excluded – Beam Transfer Etienne CARLIER – 03-12-2009
Summary BT will follow the “Accelerator Complex Controls Renovation” as set up by the CO group. Expertise and manpower (from exploitation) available to perform the migration of GM classes to FESA. Ready to in-source some specific control functionalities only used by BT, but resources (funding and manpower) to be found. Some specific BT “non-blocking” technical issues still to be clarified with CO. Some concerns about resources needed to maintain a homogeneity at the low level across the complete accelerator chain.
